SilverKnots Seniors Community Ltd. is a Calgary-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting seniors through holistic, culturally sensitive programs designed to nurture physical health, emotional well-being, and meaningful social connection in a close-knit, social, and homely environment — where friendships flourish, & lives thrive.
We recognize that seniors carry rich histories, deep-rooted traditions, and powerful identities — and our programs are built to honour those stories with respect, dignity, and compassion.
At SilverKnots, we believe that growing older does not mean growing apart from who you are. We believe in building strong peer relationships, reducing social isolation, and fostering community connections that truly uplift the senior population.
Our inclusive, accessible programs ensure that every senior — regardless of background, language, or ability — has the opportunity to thrive, belong, and continue celebrating their culture with pride.
Our Story
SilverKnots was founded from a simple but powerful realization: while there are hundreds of programs and services designed for seniors, very few truly reflect the cultural needs and lived experiences of diverse senior communities.
Many existing programs follow a “one-size-fits-all” model. However, for many seniors—especially those from immigrant and multicultural backgrounds—culture, language, traditions, food, and social connection are deeply tied to their emotional well-being, sense of belonging, and overall health. When these elements are missing, seniors can feel isolated even within well-intentioned programs.
Recognizing this important gap, the founders envisioned a different approach.
This vision led to the birth of SilverKnots Seniors Community—an organization proudly committed to culturally sensitive and inclusive programming that respects traditions, celebrates diversity, and supports the mental, social, and physical well-being of seniors.
At SilverKnots, we believe that healthy aging is not only about services—it is about connection, culture, and community.
Our Founder/Team
SilverKnots is led by a founding team with over 25 years of experience in seniors’ health, wellness, and community services, including work with established seniors living organizations across Canada and the United States. Drawing on global insights (including India and other Asia Pac) and strong community engagement, the team is committed to delivering culturally responsive programs that support healthy aging, social connection, and improved quality of life for seniors. Through partnerships with volunteers, community organizations, and local supporters, SilverKnots is building an inclusive platform that reduces isolation and promotes active, dignified aging for diverse senior communities.
Our Name & Symbol
The Meaning behind SilverKnots
The name SilverKnots reflects the enduring connections, shared journeys, and inner strength that define our seniors’ community. Across cultures, knots symbolize continuity, unity, and bonds that cannot be broken — the idea that life’s threads are woven together without a clear beginning or end.
Knots represent love, friendship, commitment, and wisdom — values that deepen with time and shared experience. They also reflect life’s natural cycles: youth, adulthood, and later years — and the beautiful interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit.
The Kolam-Inspired Logo
Our Kolam-inspired logo visually brings these meanings to life. Kolam is a centuries-old geometric art form from India, traditionally drawn at the entrance of homes to welcome visitors and invite harmony, prosperity, and protection. Created with continuous, flowing lines and intricate patterns — often without a clear start or finish — Kolam is, by its very nature, a visual knot.
Its repeating, interconnected design reflects the shared paths, collective wisdom, and mutual support that define our seniors’ community at SilverKnots.
